Anti-condensation Heaters

IP Enclosures provide a wide range of heating products for electrical enclosures. The largest risk to electronics is a short-circuit due to water droplets. Condensation may form due to fluctuating temperature, low temperature, and high humidity. Condensation may result in corrosion and failure of electrical equipment and sensitive components. Heaters prevent condensation forming inside the enclosure. The air in an environment will contain a percentage of water vapour. If the temperature falls, the air will hold less water vapour at the same humidity. The water vapour will condensate onto the coldest parts of the electrical enclosure and contents. As metallic surfaces conduct heat more efficiently than non-metallics, metallic surfaces will be cooler because heat dissipates on them faster therefore condensation will form on these metallic surfaces. Electrical enclosure heating ensures that the air temperature inside the enclosure does not fall below the set point to help prevent condensation forming. Locating the heater correctly within the enclosure is important. Optimal performance requires the heater to be located approximately 100mm from the bottom of the enclosure and 50mm from the sides of the enclosure to allow natural convection for heat distribution. Large enclosures may require fan heaters to distribute heat throughout the large enclosure. The heater is controlled with a thermostat or hygrostsat to determine internal temperature or relative humidity to prevent condensation.
